In the article presents the results of a theoretical analysis of the category «mental health» and «inner harmony of the person». An attempt has been made to substantiate interal harmony as an adaptive mechanism of mental health of university students. Mental health is defined as a state of inner well-being, providing a harmonious relationship between the mapping of circumstances of reality and the attitude of the individual towards it. The results of an empirical study of the relationship between the self-assessment of mental health of future psychologists and the sense of inner harmony are presented. It was established that special attention should be paid to the search for causes and the identification of mechanisms for optimal forms of response and overcoming of dangerous situations in pedagogical interaction, which is an important condition for preserving the mental health of students.
